9.  Competitors assume that conflicts are contests by which one can either gain or lose status.  They are inclined to engage in those conflicts which will glorify them most.  Their position of superiority tends to escalate legitimate differences into win/lose contests and parties lose sight of the value of pursuing mutual interests.
Aggressive/Defensive
- View conflict as threatening.
- Become adversarial, ready for battle.
- Try to overpower or outwit opponents.
- Need to win.
